A Santa Cruz County Superior Court judge is working to determine whether to try 17 year-old A.J. Gonzalez as an adult, or a child. Gonzalez has been charged with 7 felonies in connection with the 2015 killing of 8 year-old “Maddy” Middleton. The little girl is believed to have been lured into her neighbor’s apartment before she was attacked, and stabbed….and then her body was tossed into a recycle bin at their apartment complex. The question is whether the treatment, and rehabilitation services, offered in juvenile court fit Gonzalez’ needs at this point.
