A Gilroy hospital will no longer provide maternal and pediatric services. Officials for Saint Louise Regional Hospital say the hospital loses 2 million dollars annually because 75 percent of women who give birth at the facility are Medi-Cal recipients and that the hospital isn’t compensated for its services from Medi-Cal. The change goes into effect in 60 to 90 days and leaves many expectant mothers trying to make arrangements with hospitals nearly an hour away where their doctors don’t have privileges. Many women are expected to give birth at the hospitals emergency room.
