The new Camping Services And Standards Ordinance was approved at this week’s Santa Cruz City Council meeting. The new C.S.S.O. bans people from sleeping in public spaces, except where homelessness programs are in place. Even though the ordinance was adopted it won’t go into effect for at least 30 days, and it’s expected to be longer than that because the city has to do several things before the new ordinance can be enforced. Two of those things are to establish “safe sleeping sites” for at least 150 people….and create a storage program (for the belongings of each homeless person in the city of Santa Cruz).
