Although more arrests and charges are expected, 21 Monterey County Jail inmates have been indicted so far (along with 8 other people) on felony charges including conspiracy, money laundering and making fraudulent statements in unemployment insurance applications. The members of a multi-agency task force, assisted by employees of the State Employment Development Department, continue to identify those who illegally took advantage of the system….when the E.D.D. was working to process thousands of claims as quickly as possible (so as to be able to assist people who were without income due to the pandemic).
