There’s a new leader for the Amah Mutsun Trust…..and he is the first Native Amer ican to hold that position. Raymond Hitchcock, who is of Miwok and Nisenan decent, replaces Sara French, who was serving as the trust’s interim executive director. French will return to her previous role as the trust’s Director Of Development. Amah Mutsun tribal territory includes Morgan Hill south to King City, east to the ridgeline of the Diablo Range and west to the Santa Cruz and Gabilan Mountains. In addition, Mutsun territory includes the watershed of the Pajaro River to the Pacific Ocean, and Watsonville to the Elkhorn Slough .
The trust stewards a 96-acre conservation easement near Año Nuevo State Park, as well as a cultural easement on Mt. Umunhum. Amah Mustun tribal members also steward land in Quiroste Valley, which is a designated California State Cultural Preserve.
