Reportedly, thefts of Catalytic Converters are now on the rise in Watsonville (as well as Pacific Grove and other cities in our tri-county area). The public is encouraged to remain vigilant….especiall y in the overnight hours when most of the Catalytic Conver ters are stolen. They are seemingly being taken because they can be taken quickly, and then traded for cash at a chop shop or metal recycler.
While residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity, they are also encouraged to park in well-lit areas, have a mechanic weld the catalytic converter to the car’s frame and engrave your Vehicle Identification Number on the Catalytic Converter, so that anyone who sees it may be able to realize it was stolen.
