Delays or cancellations can be found for various transportation modes, including flight and bus. That’s due to their drivers or pilots getting vaccinated and causes operator shortages that can disrupt travel.
Alex Clifford with Santa Cruz Metro shares his experience with getting his fellow transit workers vaccinated.
“The offers that we have received for transit worker vaccine slot(s) amounted to over 500 slots—we have 300 employees. We allowed our employees, on company time, to go get that vaccination. So if they went on their day off, or their time off, we are also reimbursing them with one hour of annual leave for each of the vaccines.”
Clifford also expressed his gratitude to Santa Cruz County (100 appointments), the City of Watsonville (150 appointments) Monterey Bay Central Council, SMART Local Union, and Kaiser Permanante for reserving hundreds of vaccination slots for the public transportation workers.
