A 39-year-old Soquel man was shot and injured while deputies were detaini ng him Tuesday night. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office says Eli Burry was being held by the deputies and during the process, Burry discharged a firearm that he had in his possession.
A deputy on the scene also discharged their weapon, striking Burry. The sheriff’s office would not specify if Burry had pointed his weapon at deputies when the weapon went off.
The deputies immediately rendered medical aid and Burry was transported to a hospital where he is expected to survive.
