A transition plan has been approved that would create a county-run public defender’s office. The firm that has been providing indigent defense services to Santa Cruz county since 1975 will have the right of first opportunity at employment in the new office, and as such the attorneys there are expected to receive job offers by September. The attorney who runs Biggam, Christensen, and Minsloff has also asked that his administrative staff and investigators be included in those hiring decisions by the county.
