Yesterday’s fire in a homeless encampment, near the intersection of Highways 1 and 9, was the second blaze at the encampment in a week. This time an occupant was cooking food with an open flame too close to his tent….and his neighbor’s tent. Both tents were destroyed by the fire that also climbed a ways up a nearby redwood tree.
Several propane cylinders and a car battery were also melted by the accidental fire….that was on the opposite side of the sound wall from the coral street shelter.
This encampment is on the cal-trans right-of-way that is expected to be cleared soon due to expected roadwork in the area.
