Due to the California Supreme Court’s ruling this morning, that SB-1391 is constitutional, the man accused of killing 8 year-old Maddy Middleton in Santa Cruz, could be released from prison when he turns 25 years-old. SB-1391, which went into effect in 2019, prevents anyone under the age of 16 years old from being tried as an adult. Adrian “A.J.” Gonzalez was just 15 years-old when he allegedly raped, tortured, and murdered his young neighbor in July of 2015….before stuffing her body in a dumpster at the apartment complex where they both lived. Gonzalez remains in Santa Cruz County Jail.
