The fate of an already-approved affordable housing project is up in the air right now because of restrictions on adding water hook-ups on the Monterey Peninsula. The Garden Road project, and possibly other similar projects on the Monterey Peninsula, are caught between one state agency requiring each region to provide more housing, while the State Water Resources Control Board is not allowing any more water hook-ups on the Monterey Peninsula…..at least not until a new water source is available. That’s because of the poor status of the already over-pumped Carmel River.
