Watsonville Mayor Jimmy Dutra is looking for public feedback on removing the George Washington bust prior to a City Council vote that takes place tomorrow due to Washington owning slaves.
City Council will consider the following options: Move the bust to Watsonville Library, put the issue on the ballot, or keep the bust where it is at with additions such as a plaque featuring George Washington’s history.
Watsonville City Council go to vote on these options on Tuesday.
Last year, Santa Cruz removed the last mission bell on Soquel under similar pretenses.
