A judge has ruled that the city of Santa Cruz may not clear a homeless camp at San Lorenzo Park. That is because of the danger posed by COVID-19. Magistrate Judge Susan Van Keulen ruled against the city and today (WED) granted a temporary injunction against closing the park and displacing dozens of people who have lived there since last year.
This is unlikely to be a final ruling in the case and both sides—the city and homeless advocates – are due back in court on March 9th.
