2 UCSC professors have been awarded medals for their work in geophysics. The United-Kingdom-based Royal Astronomical Society awarded the Gold Medal to Earth Sciences Professor Thorne Lay, for his work, that included the discovery of discontinuity above the core-mantle boundary. The R.A.S also awarded the Price Medal to professor of Earth And Planetary Sciences Emily Brodsky “in recognition of her outstanding contributions to earthquake mechanics, frictional behavior, and rock-fluid interactions.”
