Several correctional officers at the Santa Cruz County Jail, all of whom tested positive for COVID-19, had attended a large gathering together.
Contact tracers say they are investigating the gathering as the possible source of the COVID-19 outbreak among jail staff.
The party took place early last week, and later in the week, several correctional officers who attended that party started showing COVID-19 symptoms.
Jail officials say 10 correctional officers have caught the virus and seven more are in quarantine to avoid close contact.
All jail staff and inmates were tested for COVID-19. A Sheriff’s Office spokesperson says all results are expected by the end of the week.
