As Santa Cruz County struggles to find suitable housing for the homeless… another city to our north may have found a solution.
At first the Milpitas city council voted to pursue litigation to stop a plan to convert the 146 room “Extended Stay America” hotel into 132 studio apartments for the homeless… with supportive services on site.
But a decision to file a lawsuit would put the city at odds with Santa Clara County and the state who have granted money to Milpitas to build the apartments for the homeless. Earlier this week the council decided to reverse its decision and let the shelter be built.
But not before a citizen group threatened to file suit claiming they may be harmed by the people living there.
