Cal-Fire crews in both San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties responded to calls about smoldering fires in the CZU burn area over the weekend. Although the wildfire was contained about a month ago, ground fires keep popping up, and with the dry gusty winds expected this week, that creates even more of a high fire danger. Along with that, firefighters caution people to pay close attention to where they are walking when they are near one of these smoldering burns, because roots (that may have been 6 or even 12 inches in diameter), may now just be ash, and a person could easily fall into a burning sinkhole.
The expected dry gusty winds could also bring down tree branches, whole trees, and electrical wires.
