Most communities in Monterey County are reporting census responses at rate above the state average.
- Countywide, the census response rate is 60%
- In Pacific Grove, 71.5% of residents have returned their census form.
- As for Del Ray Oaks, the highest level of participation within Monterey County, 81.3% participation in the census.
- However, Carmel had the least number of participants in the Census with only 28% of residents responding.
For every person not counted, over $2,000 per person in federal aid is lost to Monterey County.
In addition to the loss of revenue for missed census counts, seats within the House of Representatives could go to other communities because of undercounting within the census process.
