A Santa Cruz motorcyclist sustained life threatening injuries on Highway 17 on Friday. The accident took place in the southbound lanes at about 3:15, when a 32 year-old man lost control of his motorcycle while lane splitting and collided with a semi trailer. The rider was transported to a trauma center in San Jose. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the accident.
