The 2005 death sentence for Scott Peterson has been overturned by the California Supreme Court, although prosecutors will be to try again for the same sentence. The 2004 murder conviction was upheld, but justices determined that the trial judge “made a series of clear and significant errors in jury selection” that “undermined Peterson’s right to an impartial jury during the penalty phase”. Peterson was convicted to killing his 27 year-old 8-month pregnant wife, Laci Peterson, and their unborn son Connor. Peterson was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his wife and the second-degree murder of their unborn son.
