The Scotts Valley Police Department has created guidelines for people who are requesting that police officers retrieve items from their evacuated homes and businesses. That’s because the demand has been so high the department got overwhelmed. Requests will either be approved with police escort, approved for officer retrieval, or not approved.
- Officers are likely to approve the police escort for the retrieval of pets left at home, or to get work vehicles, tools or items directly related to livelihood.
- Requests that are likely to be approved for officer retrieval are: medicine or medical equipment if all other options of getting that stuff elsewhere have been exhausted, to lock houses/businesses, and to turn off sprinklers.
