On Sunday evening, Battalion Chief Mark Brunton delivered an update on the CZU Lightning Complex Fire and how the agency is working to quell it.
“Moving into the community of Santa Cruz, we were able to establish [a] control line between Highway 1 and Highway 9 a couple days ago. About a four-blade dozer line, which gives us a really good catcher’s mitt, and a fire break to provide protection for that community as well as the U.C. Campus, we have a secondary line to catch it, so we’re feeling really confident into that”, Brunton said.
Brunton also mentions that they successfully put out a spot fire in Felton and have been working on establishing initial control lines in the North Coast.
