Highway 25 Project Alternatives 08.17.2020 1100 6 js

The Council of San Benito County Governments Board of Directors have delayed an agreement to begin the environmental phase of researching alternatives to improving Highway 25.

The current project price tag for widening the Highway is estimated at 342-million dollars.

This project is expected to be mostly funded by Measure G which was approved by voters nearly two years ago.

Because of budget limitations due to the pandemic, the following cheaper alternatives to widening are being considered…

  • Widening North or South directions only.
  • Split alignments in either direction
  • Widening at the Highway 25 and Highway 156 interchange only.
  • Caltrans transferring ownership of the highway to San Benito County.

Directors with the C O G take interest in taking ownership yet risks such as holding the San Benito County liable for accidents and full fiscal responsibility.
