Fines now start at 100 dollars, for the infraction of failing to follow state-mandated pandemic-related restrictions in Santa Cruz county. That after Santa Cruz County Supervisors unanimously adopted an emergency ordinance last night. Because it was passed as an emergency ordinance, it took effect immediately. Violating health orders related to the Covid-19 pandemic is also a misdemeanor offense under California’s health code….and that carries a fine of up to 1,000 dollars and the possibility of a sentence of 6 months behind bars. While voluntary compliance is always preferred, these penalties provide an enforcement mechanism.
