The Ben Lomond man charged with murdering Santa Cruz County Sheriff Sergeant Damon Gutzwiller was in a Santa Cruz courtroom on Friday. 32 year old, Steven Carrillo had been scheduled to enter a plea but instead received new legal representation from the public defenders office. Security at the courthouse was extremely tight. Following the proceedings Carrillo was transported to an out of county jail which is protocol for defendants accused of killing local law enforcement officers.
