Bars in Monterey County are being ordered to close today after the county remained on the state’s coronavirus watch list. On Monday, Gov. Newsom tweeted that the state had ordered Monterey County to close indoor operations for bars, restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, zoos, museums, and cardrooms.
Public Health Officer Edward Moreno said he would sign a health order on Tuesday and it will go in effect today. California public health officials said bars are one of the highest risk businesses because drinking alcohol can impair judgment, leading to people neglecting to wear face masks and keep a social distance.
