An East Salinas school is undergoing a 16 million dollar re-construction. Alisal community school, which was built in the 1930s was initially a 1-room schoolhouse that was moved there from Chualar, so they could teach the children who migrated to Salinas from the dustbowl. The little school was the foundation for the Alisal Union School District, which now has 12 elementary schools, and serves more than 85-hundred students. The new, 2-story, State-Of-The-Art Building will have 23 classrooms and a media center and is slated to be completed in time for the start of the 2021 school year. The last, major renovation for this school was nearly 20 years ago.
