On Sunday, a man who lost an object to the San Lorenzo River attempted to retrieve it by jumping from the trestle that connects from the boardwalk to East Cliff Drive.
The man did not resurface.
Nearly two-dozen lifeguards as well as rescue swimmers searched for the man who fell into the river.
The man was rescued, given CPR, and was transported to the hospital.
The rescue was thanks in part to the efforts of Santa Cruz Fire, Santa Cruz Police, Santa Cruz Rangers, California State Parks Rangers, and Santa Cruz Fire Department lifeguards.
The man remains hospitalized, but is reportedly in stable condition.
