A Seaside councilman is urging de-funding of areas of the city’s police department. At a recent protest, council member, Jon Wizard publicly called for the demilitarization of the Seaside Police Department through defunding. Wizard called for more police accountability and a diversion of some of the departments 14 million dollar budget to youth programs. The Seaside Police Officers Association said they welcome community involvement, but need all of the budget to operate around the clock all year long.
