Monterey Discusses City Money Problems 05-27-20 05:54 DC

The Monterey City Council will hold a special meeting today to discuss financing options for the city that’s been badly hurt by the coronavirus pandemic.

 

On Tuesday, city officials told reporters that a dramatic decline in tourism, among other COVID-19 challenges, has led to revenue losses expected to total $20 million dollars.

 

Monterey City officials say they hope to avoid adding to the 80 layoffs of city workers that will take place in June. The city said it expects COVID will cost the city of Monterey cost $31 million over the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 fiscal years.
