The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted to proclaim May 21 as “Ben Kelly Day” to honor the surfer killed in a shark attack earlier this month.
May 21 would have been Kelly’s birthday. He was killed when he was attacked by what is believed to have been a Great White shark near Sand Dollar Beach on May 9.
