Nearly 2,100 AC of Monterey Co Crops Lost to COVID 05-06-20 03:30

The Monterey County Agriculture Commissioner’s Office says thousands of acres of crops were lost or not planted due to the coronavirus.

The voluntary survey questioned over 100 vegetable and berry growers. It found that 2,093 (almost 2,100) acres were not planted or lost this year. Nearly 40% of respondents said losses ranged from 5-to-90% of their crops. Lettuce, broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, artichokes, wine grapes, and lemons were among the corps effected.

The Monterey County ag commissioner said growers reported problems getting Personal Protective Equipment and disinfectants for their workers.
