The Monterey City Council last night (Wed) approved the layoff of 82 current city employees.
The widely expected COVID-related job cuts will go into effect on June 2. Former employees’ healthcare will be covered in June and July, but at this time it will not be covered after that.
The City Council said that over the next two months it will consider extending healthcare benefits for the laid-off workers.
