Surprising Local COVID Statistics 04-09-20 03:22 DC

There are surprises in the demographics of Central Coast coronavirus cases. An interactive chart created by KSBW Television shows that most patients are younger than many of us might have previously imagined.

Bottom-line findings as of Noon Wednesday for the three local counties are:

Santa Cruz County has 43 confirmed cases among people under 50 years of age, but only 32 cases among those aged 50 and over.

Monterey County has 50 confirmed cases in people less than 55 years old, but only 13 cases in those aged 55 and over.

San Benito County reports no confirmed cases in children younger than 18, there have been 21 cases in those aged 18 to 49 years old and 12 cases among those aged 50 and over.

While there are many possible reasons for how these numbers came to be, people who believe COVID-19 is about someone older than they are may not have seen the full picture. Millennials and seniors are at risk from COVID-19.
