A reported kidnapping attempt involving a Monterey student was really just a misunderstanding caused by caution.
KSBW Television reports that according to an email from Bay View Academy to parents, one of their students was approached by a stranger while they were walking to school.
The person reportedly tried to tell the student to get into the car.
Monterey police found upon investigation that it was actually another student’s mother trying to offer a ride to the student, who didn’t know the woman and reported the incident to the school as an abduction attempt.
The school has asked its parents to tell their kids how to handle strangers as they walk to and from school.
