Monterey county fire crews battled a toxic fire in north Salinas on Saturday. The blaze broke out when a truck collided with a power pole on Natividad Road near Old Stagecoach Road shortly before 1 p-m. The fire quickly spread to agricultural plastic stock piles producing out hazardous smoke that was visible for miles. At times the fire threatened nearby structures but was contained at about 9 p-m. Fire crews remained on the scene throughout the night.
