A safety concern at Watsonville Municipal Airport where officials say they’re seeing more and more laser strikes… especially in the last month.
According to the director of operations at “Specialized Helicopters” at the airport, one pilot was blinded in one of his eyes for ten minutes after being struck by a laser. He added that many of the laser strikes happen during flight training at nightfall.
Pilots report the lasers are more powerful than the ordinary type and show colors of red, green and blue. Nationwide… there are about 6-thousand laser strikes every year. If caught flashing a laser… the Federal Aviation Administration invokes a penalty of 25-thousand dollars.
