101 in Salinas Closed Tonight – Friday AM 02-05-20 15:46 DC

SALINAS – A major four-mile project to upgrade the pavement in both directions of U.S. Highway 101 between East Market Street and Boronda Road continues with concrete pavement replacement work (Precast concrete panels) on five segments of roadway from East Market Street to Main Street beginning tonight and will continue until March 20th weather permitting.

Motorists will encounter full highway closures at the following location from 10 pm to 5 am Sunday night thru Thursday night (Friday morning):

  • Northbound US 101 will be closed from East Market Street to North Main Street. Motorists may detour at East Market Street to Sherwood Drive to East Rossi Street to the Northbound on-ramp on North Main Street.

This project includes the installation of precast concrete pavement, cracking and sealing the pavement, an asphalt concrete overlay and reconstructing the ramps at East Market Street, North Main Street, West Laurel Drive and Boronda Road. This project includes improvements to 19 on/off ramps and will result in an improved pavement for many years to come.

The contractor for this $37 million project is Granite Rock Company of San Jose, CA. Completion is scheduled for Summer 2021, weather permitting.
