Smartphones can now tell California marijuana users whether a dispensary is legit.
Today, the state Bureau of Cannabis Control began encouraging licensed cannabis retailers to post QR codes in their store windows. The codes can be scanned using a cellphone camera that then uses the code to check the bureau’s online license bureau.
Illegal dispensaries often don’t pay taxes that in some communities are nearly 50percent of the cannabis sales price.
