The Farm Workforce Modernization Act, or H.R. 4916, is slated to provide reform in the agricultural industry by offering immigrant farm workers a path to legal citizenship. This bill is sponsored by Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren.
Local Congressman for the 20th district Jimmy Panetta told KSCO about the bill on “Good Morning Monterey Bay”.
In this interview, Panetta discusses the difficulties of reaching bipartisan approval, and how it took 9 months of due diligence with labor stakeholders in order to reach the current milestone.
The bill is currently being introduced. Once the bill passes the house, it is then passed to the senate for approval followed by the President’s signature, at which point it becomes law.
