A new Salinas Police department patch features the likeness of K9 Oakley, a narcotics canine with the department.
K9 Oakley can sniff out heroin, meth, cocaine and ecstasy.
The idea for the patch after KP Oakley and his handler, Officer Zach Dunagan with the Violence Suppression Task Force, visited a school and a student asked if there was anything they could hand out with Oakley on it.
The new patch can be handed out when Oakley and Dunagan visit schools. The department will also be soon selling them for $10 a patch. Proceeds will go towards the cost of the patches and other projects.
