A suspected child rapist and former neurosurgeon, 58 year old James Kohut was found dead in his Santa Cruz County Jail cell. Kohut was found deceased at about 5:45 a-m when breakfast was taken to his single occupancy, protective custody cell. An official cause death will be released by the coroner, however a preliminary pathologist reports it appears he took his own life. Kohut was taken into custody on May 14th of 2017, along with co defendants 44 year old Rashel Brandon, and 31 year old Emily Stephens.
