The Salinas police officers involved in the shooting death of a single mother last month acted in self defense.
That’s the announcement today from the Monterey county district attorney’s office regarding the standoff between 20-year-old Brenda Rodriguez Mendoza and Salinas police.
Rodriguez Mendoza was barricaded in her car outside a home on east laurel drive brandishing what turned out to be a bb gun. Body cam video from the march standoff shows the woman raising the weapon as if to open fire on officers. Audio can be heard from a hostage negotiator and police pleading with her to drop the gun.
