Barry Swenson’s planned 5-story, 88-room hotel, would be built where the 4-story, 160-room “Hotel Capitola” was constructed in 1894. That hotel was destroyed by fire in December of 1929. Nearly 20 years later, in 1948, the Capitola Theater opened, and it remained a functioning theater until 2005. The less-than-an-acre lot has been a private parking lot since the building was torn down in 2010. Swenson Builders plan to show the preliminary plans to Capitola Planning Commissioners tomorrow night….at their 7 p.m. meeting in Capitola City Hall.
