The Santa Cruz County Civil Grand Jury has issued a report on what they feel are inadequacies in the way deputy probation officers are equipped and trained. The 19-member Civil Grand Jury has provided recommendations. 2 of those are:
- The Department should provide Deputy Probation Officers with standardized safety gear (individually fitted vests, functioning radios, tasers, OC spray, identifiable clothing, and Narcan™ for their field visits.
AND
- The Department should provide all DPOs with mandatory initial and ongoing field safety training in collaboration with the Safety Committee.
