Safe and sane fireworks are now for sale at booths that are in several different places in Watsonville. 22 non-profit organizations are running the booths that sell the fireworks (that neither explode, nor leave the ground). Safe And Sane Fireworks can be set off in Watsonville and Capitola, however their are still rules involved. Even Safe And Sane Fireworks are not allowed on open and natural land, or in the sloughs, watersheds and wetland areas of Santa Cruz County. Fireworks are also banned on un-occupied properties. Anyone caught lighting them elsewhere faces fines for each illicit item, whether or not they are deemed Safe And Sane.
Teams of firefighters and law enforcement officials will be on patrol throughout the county looking for those who possess illegal fireworks such as M-80s, bottle rockets M-100s, mortars and cherry bombs.
Even where fireworks are permitted, teams of officers and firefighters will be on the lookout for illegal fireworks.
