With 250,000 people expected to come into town for the U.S. Open next week at Pebble Beach, members of Cal-Trans and C.H.P. have spent 18 months putting together a traffic and transit plan. People are encouraged to adjust their travel times to fit around the peak arrival and departure hours for the U.S. Open. Those peak hours are 7 to 11 a.m., and 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Castroville Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound Highway 156 will be closed, and people will need to go into Castroville, turn left onto Merritt Street, go over the overpass, and take the left onto Eastbound Highway 156. Local residents, and area commuters from the Salinas Valley, are encouraged to follow alternate routing and trailblazing signage to General Jim Moore Boulevard. Drivers on Highway 1, between Exit 399a (Pebble Beach) and Exit 414 (the Nashua/Molera Road exit) are expected to experience delays. Monterey and Pacific Grove commuters are asked to avoid the use of Exit 399a and Highway 68 during those peak times.
The entire June 10th through 16th event is scheduled to be contested at Pebble Beach.
