Greenfield and Seaside Vie For New MOCO Courthouse 05-0319 02:40 DC

Following a council meeting Thursday night, Greenfield has pledged $10 million as what’s being called a “soft promise” to help pay for a new courthouse they say was promised to them by the state almost 10 years ago.

Money problems kept construction from starting a decade ago and the existing courthouse in King City was closed in 2013. Greenfield officials say a plot of land for the new courthouse has already been donated.

That’s where Seaside comes in. Officials there say they recently received interest from state officials about building a new courthouse in that community.

County leaders have gotten involved with Supervisor Luis Alejo who says Sacramento would never fund two courthouse projects at the same time in the same county. It appears the state judicial commission will have the final say.
