A protected seal was killed by an off-leash dog (on a California beach where dogs are not allowed). The incident, in which a Guadalupe Fur Seal was killed, took place recently at Point Reyes National Seashore in Marin County. That attack is under investigation, and the dog (and its owner) are being sought. Anyone with information about them is encouraged to contact the Marine Mammal Center.
Guadalupe Fur Seals are listed as Threatened under the Endangered Species Act, and Depleted under the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
